Woolmanhill Student Accommodation Upgrade
The Woolmanhill Halls of Residence comprise 11no. Blocks of flats that were built in the mid-1990s. The buildings are located around a central car park. Access to the development is off John Street, Aberdeen. The flats are home to over 700 RGU students, and as part of the University’s ongoing property maintenance and upgrade strategy, there was a requirement to replace windows and refurbish the interior of the blocks. The works comprised replacement windows and associated works to mainly the living rooms within the flats, , replacement finishes, including decoration, floorcoverings, joiner work, plumbing and electrical works. The project works were to be undertaken within 5no. Blocks (A & B) of the flats - all residential blocks. The aim of the project was to maintain one of the key RGU student accommodation blocks, and to continue to attract students to it. The project involved the majority of Transform’s multi-trade capability – joiner work, ceilings, electrical, floorcoverings, partitions and doors, plumbing and decoration all supervised and managed by our in-house project management team. Safe external access to the windows was a major risk, along with working at height in a location with public access, so our approach and detailed method statements were important to ensure that all works were carried out safely and without risk to the public.
